Culantro is native to Mexico and South America where it is often grown as a perennial. Nowadays it is cultivated worldwide. The taste of culantro is very similar to cilantro, which is a close relative. The leaves are often 4 to 5 inches long, ovoid in shape, with a center rib and sawtooth margin.
