GALANGAL

Galangal is a rhizome and a member of the ginger family, but that’s where the similarity ends. Galangal has a tangy, sharp flavor and a personality quite distinct from ginger. Denser, firmer and more knobby than common ginger, it is also rounder and marked with concentric rings every half inch apart and has no skin to be peeled. It is available as a whole root, or cut and powdered. Galangal is said to be used as an aphrodisiac when mixed with lime juice.
