BLOOD ORANGE

All varieties of blood oranges developed in the citrus production areas around the Mediterranean Sea. Blood or red oranges are the most popular varieties in many European countries. In the United States, the Moro variety is usually the variety favored by growers for processing, due to its juice content and consistent strong color. However, varieties like Tarocco, now being exported from Italy, are finding a market niche due to their higher sugar content and tender flesh. Tarocco is seedless, an easy peeler, and develops a larger size than other varieties.
