Sugarcane is indigenous to South Asia and Southeast Asia, and was later introduced to the Americas by the Spanish and the Portuguese. It has hard fibrous stalks, usually measure six to nineteen feet tall, and are rich in sugar. The cane is boiled to make sugar, molasses and rum.
